Jordan River Foundation (JRF) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 1995 with a focus on child safety and community empowerment. It has been a major player in Jordan’s social and economic development, bringing forth over 20 years of experience to local community empowerment and child safety. JRF has also been supporting homegrown solutions that engage Jordanians and help them address local challenges. Most importantly, JRF places the wellbeing of children at the center of its development initiatives.
Enaam Al-Barrishi is the Director General of the Jordan River Foundation since Sep 2015. Before joining JRF she led the Royal Health Awareness Society (RHAS) as its Director General for eight years. RHAS- a not-for profit organization established in August 2005 under the direction and guidance of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah.
With more than 20 years of experience in the development sector, Mrs. Barrishi has a wide range of experience community empowerment, with special focus on women and youth. Ms. Barrishi has led on many initiatives that aim to create livelihood opportunities and enhance the socio-economic status of community members through education, health, employment and SMEs. She has held various positions within her career path. Worked as a Country Director for Counterpart International (CPI) based in Washington, Jordan Office between 2005-2007, where she was responsible for overseeing the implementation of all CPI’s projects/programs in Jordan.
Prior to joining (CPI) Mrs. Barrishi held the position of Senior Consultant for Governance and Coordination at The Jordan Poverty Alleviation Program (JPAP) Nathan Associates Inc. where she was responsible for developing means and providing necessary support to ensure implementation of the recommendations of the Strategy.
Earlier to her career in development, Mrs. Barrishi worked as External Relations & Communications Officer; where she handled the role of fostering external relations at the national and international level at the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD).
Mrs. Barrishi has attained her Masters in International Relations, school of Politics University of Nottingham, UK.
Tariq Al-Shawarbeh is the Shared Service Director of the Jordan River Foundation since Dec 2019 where he has been responsible for driving the Foundation's Shared Services Division vision and road-map, overseeing the implementation of strategic objectives, and ensuring compliance across various departments, including Human Resources, Administration, Information Technology, Property Management, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Logistics.
Prior to joining (JRF), Tariq held the position of HR and Administration Director at Save the Children Jordan, where he played a crucial role in developing the organizational culture, designing an organizational structure that aligned with organization goals, and ensuring compliance with all Save the Children policies and procedures. He also led the Human Resources function, managing recruitment, retention, and succession planning, as well as performance management, disciplinary matters, and staff morale.
Earlier in his career, Tariq held the position of Administration Manager and HR Manager Deputy at the Jordan River Foundation's HR Department. In this role, he managed recruitment and selection, HRIS, performance management, orientation and induction, training, payroll, and generating HR reports.
Mr. Shawarbeh has attained his Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology (IT) with a minor in Telecommunications in 2003 from the National University in San Diego, California, USA.
Mouath Tarshihi is a seasoned communications professional and currently serves as the Media and Communications Director at the Jordan River Foundation since Feb 2016 where he has been responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication plans to promote the foundation's mission and activities. Through his effective leadership and expertise, Tarshihi has played a vital role in enhancing the foundation's public image and expanding its reach within the community. He has also been instrumental in establishing strong relationships with media outlets, stakeholders, and partners, facilitating the foundation's efforts to bring about positive social change.
Prior to joining (JRF), Tarshihi served as the Communications Director at The Royal Health Awareness Society from January 2014 to January 2016, where he spearheaded various communication initiatives aimed at promoting health awareness and education in Jordan. His strategic approach and innovative ideas contributed to the success of several campaigns and programs implemented by the society. Tarshihi's dedication and commitment to public health led to increased awareness and positive behavioral changes among the population.
Earlier in his career, Mouath held the position of PR & Media Advisor for The Royal Health Awareness Society - A Queen Rania Initiative from August 2009 to December 2013. In this role, he provided expert guidance on public relations and media strategies to support the society's initiatives.
And prior to that he held several positions in the PR and Media sector, where it includes a brief but impactful tenure as the Media Relations Director at Madison PR - Publicis Graphics Jordan, also as a Senior PR Officer at The National Company for Development & Housing, and began his career in the field of communications as a Media Relations Manager at Asdaa Public Relations, where he worked from March 2005 to September 2008
Mr. Tarshihi has attained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan.
Dedicated to social justice, sustainable development and community empowerment, Dr. Mohammad Hourani has transformed the lives of thousands of Jordanians as JRF’s Director of Programs and Training via the foundation’s Child Safety and Community Empowerment programs.
Two decades of experience has enabled Hourani to further advance JRF’s role in curbing child abuse through child protection activities that provide vital support and healing to victims through case management and psychosocial services.
Under Hourani's supervision, JRF has successfully connected youth to employment opportunities by offering training programs that enhance employability and basic life skills, as well as vocational acumen.
Prior to his role at JRF, Hourani served as Chief Operations Officer of ASK for Human Capacity Building, managing large-scale national reform programs in Jordan, UAE, Qatar, and KSA. He has also served as Academic and Training Director of ASK Consulting and Training in Abu Dhabi and as deputy CEO of CADER, where he managed USAID-funded reform projects in Jordan.
Hourani has contributed to the establishment of two higher education diplomas certified by Al Yarmouk University in partnership with INHOLLAND University, leading to the graduation of over 7,000 teachers in Jordan.
Dr. Hourani's expertise extends far beyond his leadership at JRF. He has played instrumental roles in national-level reform programs, driving institutional development and community economic growth. His strategic thinking and innovative program designs have overcome numerous challenges, ensuring the comprehensive and successful implementation of nationwide projects.
Hourani holds a Ph.D. in Evaluation and Assessment from the University of Jordan and is a certified Master Trainer from INHOLLAND University.
Aql is a senior development specialist and writer with over 12 years of cross-sectoral experience in both corporate and non-profit sectors. As the Director of Strategic Partnerships at Jordan River Foundation, Aql is responsible for managing the Fundraising and Program Development departments to meet the organization’s yearly fundraising target of $18 million worth of income via multiple streams, including developing strategic partnerships with high-level donors, institutional donors (EU, UN, Embassies), private sector, INGOs, and HNWI.

Mahfouz Said is an accomplished executive with over 29 years of experience in operational management and business development across the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. Throughout his career, he has successfully leveraged business operations for companies with annual revenues ranging from $500,000 to $12 million, ensuring operational integrity and driving growth strategies.
Currently, Mahfouz serves as the Director of Social Enterprises at the Jordan River Foundation since October 2019. In this capacity, he leads the social enterprises component of the organization, which includes a production kitchen, a restaurant, handicrafts, and a collaboration with IKEA.
Prior to his current role, Mahfouz held the position of Operations Director at KAMA LOCAL GOURMET from July 2017 to October 2019. During this time, he successfully led the operations of the startup and played a pivotal role in launching the brand in Jordan, regionally, and globally. Reporting to the CEO, Mahfouz demonstrated his expertise in driving operational excellence.
From June 2006 to May 2017, Mahfouz served as the Business Director and Director of International Operations, EUMEA, at FOCUS BRANDS. He played a key role in leading the operations for the company's five key brands, including Cinnabon, Seattle's Best Coffee, Carvel, Schlotzky's, Moe's, and Auntie Anne's. With an overall budget of $10 million, Mahfouz achieved remarkable growth of 40% over a nine-year period. He reported to the VP of Operations and played a vital role in expanding the business across the Middle East, Africa, Pakistan, and Eastern Europe.
Mahfouz's previous experiences include roles such as General Manager and Operations Manager at JANA FOR RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT/CINNABON JORDAN from January 2004 to May 2006, and Operations Manager at SAID, SHA'BAN & TLEEL TRADING/SST from March 1993 to December 2004.
Mahfouz holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Finance from Yarmouk University in Jordan, completed in 1993.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Mahfouz actively engages in external activities and volunteer work. He is a member of the Rotary Club since 2010 and has contributed to INJAZ volunteer work from 2003 to 2006. In addition, he held leadership positions within the Rotaract Club, serving as President from 1993 to 1994 and as District Rotaract Governor from 1997 to 1998.
Nael Ismaeel Abu-Suleiman is a highly motivated and driven finance professional with fourteen years of experience in various financial roles. With a broad knowledge of a wide range of financial practices, including cost accounting, budgeting, reporting, and forecasting, Nael has consistently demonstrated his expertise and dedication to achieving organizational success.
Nael's extensive tenure at the Jordan River Foundation began with his role as a Senior Accountant from October 2008 to December 2013. Building on his success, he then advanced within the organization and served as an Accounting Supervisor from January 2014 to December 2017. Nael's impressive journey continued as he assumed the position of Senior Finance Manager at the Jordan River Foundation, where he excelled from January 2018 to April 2021, and is currently serving as the Finance Director at the Jordan River Foundation since April 2021.
Nael plays a vital role in developing and implementing organizational strategies. He contributes financial and accounting information, analysis, recommendations, and financial advice to the Executive Management team, ensuring alignment with donor requirements. Nael leads the budget planning activity, sets the framework for annual business planning and budgeting, and formulates risk management strategies. He addresses upper-tier financial issues and provides guidance on cash flow analysis, cost controls, and expenses. His expertise extends to maintaining financial agreements, coordinating the annual financial audit process, and ensuring compliance with financial standards and procedures. Nael excels in financial management, maintaining collaborative relationships, and staying updated on economic and regulatory trends.
Earlier in his career, Nael held the position of Accountant at the Arab Cultural Society – Al Ra'ed Al Arabi School from February 2007 to October 2008.
Nael holds a B.Sc. Degree in Accounting from The Hashemite University, Jordan.
